Fleeced at the vet

SIR – The cost of veterinary services is bad enough, but adding to the financial misery is the 20 per cent VAT that one has to pay on veterinary bills.

Animal medicine should be VATexempt. When I took this up with the relevant government department some time ago, I was told that there was nothing that could be done about it because of “EU regulations”.

Soon they won’t have that excuse. Maggie Hughes
