Look to Guernsey for a better pat of butter

SIR – Xanthe Clay’s article (June 18) comparing various brands of butter was most interestin­g.

However, she did not include any Channel Island butter in her survey, which is perhaps slightly surprising as the Guernsey Dairy’s salted butter is now freely available in mainland Britain.

While the increase in production by modern sterile methods means that I don’t think the quality is comparable to the orange butter that was exclusivel­y available on the island 50 years ago, Guernsey butter is still worth serious considerat­ion. Brian R Merritt
