Disability in the family

-

SIR – More than 100,000 families with disabled children will see cuts to their financial support under Universal Credit. Many families whose caring responsibilities prevent them from working will lose more than £1,600 per year and some working families will also be worse off. This is because child disability payments are being reduced by more than 50 per cent for many disabled children.

As the Universal Credit “full service” is gradually rolled out across the country, more and more families with disabled children are at risk of being left worse off – despite assurances to the contrary.

As a charity working with families of disabled children, we know that they are already at greater risk of living in poverty than others. We are calling for a government commitment to stop these cuts. Amanda Batten Chief Executive, Contact a Family London EC1
