You’ve Got Mail (1998) ITV, 1.00PM ★★★

Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan reprise their successful partnership from Sleepless in Seattle, co-starring here as a pair of rival bookshop owners who become unwitting allies thanks to the anonymity of an internet chat room. Directed by When Harry Met Sally scribe Nora Ephron (who also co-wrote this with her sister Delia), the film feels dated now, but remains a rewardingly soppy and romantic diversion.

Kingsman: The Secret Service (2015) CHANNEL 4, 9.00PM ★★★★

Colin Firth plays a suave Bond-like spy who recruits an urban ne’er-dowell (Taron Egerton) and initiates him into a secret intelligence agency known as Kingsman. It’s explosive, comic-book stuff with the subtlety of a hand grenade but there’s much arched-eyebrow fun to be had as they track down Samuel L Jackson’s baddie. Mark Strong and Michael Caine are among the star cast. The sequel, The Golden Circle, is in cinemas next week.

Broken (2012) BBC TWO, 10.30PM; SCOT/WALES, 11.30PM ★★★

The National Theatre’s artistic director Rufus Norris’s film debut is set in a modest suburban cul-de-sac with three adjacent houses which must bear the burden of representing broken Britain. Tim Roth is on fine form as a crumpled solicitor, and his daughter Skunk (Eloise Laurence) is a cheerful beacon of goodness in an otherwise downbeat film. Their scenes together are beautifully played. Cillian Murphy and Rory Kinnear also star.
