“I don’t believe in martyrs,” says Julian Assange in this film from Laura Poitras. “But I think people should take risks.” Poitras’s portrait of the WikiLeaks founder, shot between 2010 and 2013, presumably takes its title from that offhand but telling comment. The access is just as head-spinning, with Poitras even getting her camera on the back of his motorbike, as she takes us to the centre of the WikiLeaks operation.
