Selfish lecturers
SIR – My granddaughter is studying for a masters degree at a university on the south coast, for which she is paying £10,000.
To date, she has lost 24 hours of tuition due to the politically motivated strike. From what she tells me the standard of lecturing also leaves a lot to be desired. The lecturers take sick leave at the drop of the hat; they fail to return work in good time; and they cancel and reschedule lectures to suit their own purposes, especially on Fridays and Mondays.
I now realise why people become lecturers. It is because they would not get work in the private sector. This situation is totally unfair on young people. I read reports that the dispute has been resolved, only to learn later that people in the shadows have rejected the agreement so they can prolong the strike. John Armstrong
