Why there’s no substitute for fresh flowers

SIR – How sad that, in this increasing­ly artificial world, people are now choosing plastic flowers rather than the real thing (report, March 11).

I currently have some amazing daffodils, and the joy they have given me could not be replicated by plastic flowers, no matter how lifelike. Buying flowers in bud and watching them open and finally die, before consigning them to the compost, is worth the few minutes it takes to top up the water.

It’s much easier than dusting the plastic. Pamela Thomas
