Wide-eyed wonder of Louis at just three days old

- By Hannah Furness ROYAL CORRESPONDENT

JUST hours after he was born, Prince Louis became one of the most photographed infants in the world as he made his first appearance in front of cheering crowds at the Lindo Wing.

But when it comes to capturing the newborn Prince for posterity, nothing could come close to the loving gaze of his mother.

The Duchess of Cambridge has released touching photographs of her baby son, taken when he was just three days old.

In one, he is seen calm and wideeyed, in a white outfit on top of a cushion and blanket embellished with a rose.

The second shows him receiving a gentle kiss from his big sister Princess Charlotte, as she cradles him carefully.

The photograph was taken on the Princess’s third birthday, May 2, in a quiet moment where the Prince appears to be sleeping soundly as she plants a kiss on his forehead.

The photograph of Prince Louis on his own was taken on April 26, three days after he was born.

Princess Charlotte appeared to be wearing a “hand me down” blue and white cardigan that her elder brother, Prince George, wore for a family portrait taken to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday. Prince Louis’s white outfit also looked to be the same one worn by Princess Charlotte in photographs taken by the Duchess of Cambridge, following her birth three years ago.

The two photographs mark both of the significant landmarks for the Cambridge family: one birth and one birthday. The Duke and Duchess also celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary on April 29.

Last year, the Duke told how his wife takes a photograph of their children every day, recording precious private memories for their young family.
