Pop Amanda Palmer

One of the most audacious and outrageous singersongwriters around, the former Dresden Doll is the missing link between Weimar Cabaret and Laurel Canyon. Neil McCormick Queens Hall, Edinburgh (0131 668 2019) Fri-Sat

Theatre Othello

Mark Rylance steals the show as Shakespeare’s great villain Iago, turning expectation on its head by playing him as mildmannered and capering, executing his malevolence in plain sight with a twinkle. There’s fine work, all the same, from André Holland as the jealous Othello himself in Claire van Kampen’s propulsive new production. Dominic Cavendish Shakespeare’s Globe, London SE1 (020 7401 9919), until Oct 13
