Voters have had enough of Remainer elites who think they know best

SIR – Here we go again – the great and the good are trying to scupper Brexit, telling us simpletons that we did not vote for no-deal.

They are wrong. When I cast my vote to leave the EU, that is exactly what I wanted. I still do not understand why we need a deal to leave. We may need to negotiate some deals once we have left; but one thing I am sure of is that voters did not expect this fiasco.

I am also sure that most of us expected our MPs to abide by the referendum result. This is no longer just about Brexit. It’s about the behaviour of our elected representatives – and the future of our democracy.

Whitstable, Kent

SIR – By voting to block the possible proroguing of Parliament, MPs have shown their disdain for the will of the majority.

Their efforts will result in Britain being tied in to the EU for even longer Wareham, Dorset

SIR – The behaviour of some Conservative MPs – including Philip Hammond, David Gauke and Dominic Grieve – only strengthens my belief that the new prime minister needs to sweep away these political anarchists as soon as possible.

Luckily, the Anna Soubrys and Heidi Allens have already removed themselves, but we must hope that, before the next election, local Conservative associations deselect those MPs who have shown disloyalty to the party. One easily measurable criterion for deselection would be failing to support the Government in any vote of confidence that the Opposition dreams up.

Wimborne, Dorset

SIR – I wonder if Mr Hammond could answer the following question for me. What would cost the country more: a no-deal Brexit or a Labour government led by Jeremy Corbyn?

Caythorpe, Lincolnshire

SIR – As a Remain voter in the referendum, and a believer in democracy, I was happy with Theresa May’s Withdrawal Agreement.

There is an assumption that Leave voters are willing to pay the price of no-deal, but I have not met many who feel this way. In fact, many regret the relentless attacks that ultimately resulted in the pragmatic Theresa May being ousted. SIR – I never thought that, on the subject of our relationship with Europe, my position would be: “I don’t care anymore.”

This, however, is what our politicians have driven me to.
