Man shot dead near children’s playground

A man in his 20s was shot dead near a children’s playground in Islington, north London, yesterday afternoon.

Police were called to Roman Way at around 3.20pm after reports of gunshots near a housing estate. The victim was declared dead at the scene.

Witnesses said they heard up to seven gunshots before a moped sped away from the scene.

Police said last night no arrests had been made. A Scotland Yard statement said: “Officers attended with [London Ambulance Service] and found a man, believed to be aged in his early 20s, suffering from gunshot injuries.

“Despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin have been informed.”
