Buffets are off the menu as hotels look to future

-

HOTEL buffets are being phased out under major revamps to address hygiene concerns, with guests given private dining spaces in their rooms instead, according to experts.

Anxieties over sanitation heightened by the pandemic are leading hotels to take a new approach to dining by shifting away from restaurant areas. Insiders say businesses are planning a revamp of in-room facilities, which could see guests order food via an app. Major changes will be necessary post-pandemic, say experts at Gensler, the world’s largest architect firm.

Daniel Craner, senior associate and architect at Gensler, said: “From this weekend, hotels will begin to reopen – but not as we know them. The most notable difference will be in the dining experience, with Covid-19 potentially signalling the end of the muchloved hotel buffet.”
