Disney offers brides-to-be the chance to dress like a princess
THEY still say every little girl dreams of a fairytale wedding – well now Disney has stepped forward to make the dream a reality.
The Hollywood studio has launched a range of wedding dresses in Britain named after some of its most famous characters – including Ariel, from The
Little Mermaid; Belle, from Beauty and the Beast; Jasmine, from Aladdin; Pocahontas and of course Cinderella.
Not that a groom runs the risk of finding himself standing next to his bride dressed in a stitch-by-stitch copy of costumes worn by cartoon characters.
Rather, says Disney, the outfits are simply “inspired by the timeless characters known and loved by all”.
The launch of its wedding gown collaboration with Allure Bridals follows that of its Disney+ streaming service, with the studio giant hoping to capitalise on its newfound popularity. The studio has seen a revival among audiences and critics alike in recent years, with films such as Tangled,
Frozen and the recent liveaction remake of Mulan harking back to its golden era – while also introducing strong female characters suited to the 21st century. Insiders say they are confident that modern women “still want to dress like princesses for that very special occasion”.
Disney’s Fairy Tale Wedding collection promises brides-tobe the opportunity to “start the next chapter of your life in a dress beyond your imagination – one with magic in every thread”.
The range consists of 16 gowns – white of course – in sizes 0 to 30. Prices range from £1,200 to £2,500. The Ariel dress has cascading layers of soft tulle and organza, sweetheart neckline, pearly beaded straps and, naturally, a mermaid hemline, while the Belleinspired gown has blooms of embroidered lace, sparkling seed beads and an offthe-shoulder neckline. Walt Disney is said to have boasted: “We have made the fairytale fashionable once again.” Now it looks like it’s the turn of the modern wedding to have his magic fairy dust sprinkled over it.
