Museum talks bring sporting history to life
» GET the scoop on the town’s past sporting endeavours in an illustrated talk coming up at Tiverton Museum.
Sport in Tiverton looks at the history of different clubs, venues and achievements.
Illustrated with lots of photos from the museum’s archive, the talk explores how many of Tiverton’s longrunning sporting clubs began, including the Tiverton Harriers, Tiverton Swimming Club and local football and rugby teams.
Museum director
Pippa talks about the many bowling clubs in the town, as well as thinking about tennis, cricket, athletics and golf.
She also explores the founding of factory teams in various sports, and some of the biggest sporting achievements in the town.
Talks take place on Wednesday, May 15, from 3pm to 4pm and Thursday, May 23, from 7pm to 8pm.
Also on at the museum this month: Churches and Chapels – Guided Walk, exploring the history of Tiverton’s many chapels and churches. Saturday, May 18, 1.30pm to 3pm.
And next month there’s a chance to go Behind the Scenes at the Museum with an exclusive tour of the stores and archives on Wednesday, June 12, at 1pm.
