One Love concert raises millions

-

On 4 June, thousands of people laughed, cried, and sang at a huge pop concert in Manchester. It was held to remember the victims of the attack that had happened in the city two weeks earlier. Some of the biggest pop stars in the world, including Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus, came together to show their love and support for the victims and their families, and to show they are not afraid.

On 22 May there was an attack at an Ariana

Grande concert in Manchester Arena. Twenty-two people lost their lives and dozens more were injured. On Tuesday 30 May, just over a week after the attack, Grande announced that she wanted to put on a concert to raise money for the victims and their families. Free tickets were offered to fans who were there on the night of the attack, and the rest of the 50,000 tickets were sold to raise money for those affected. On the night, around 11 million people in the UK tuned in to watch the concert on TV, making it the most watched TV show of the year so far.

At the start of the concert, Grande paid tribute to the crowd, saying, “I want to thank you for coming together and being so loving and strong and unified.” Singing with the stars were 26 students from Parrs Wood High School Choir in Manchester. They helped Grande perform her song My Everything. The choir became an online sensation after uploading a video singing Grande’s song as a tribute to those who died.

So far a total of £10 million has been raised for the British Red Cross’s We Love Manchester Emergency Fund. The money will be used to help those affected by or injur edinthea ttack.
