Watch out, tourists

-

The mayor of Florence, one of Italy’s most beautiful cities, has warned tourists that if they keep eating their lunch on the steps of one of the city’s churches, the Santa Croce basilica, they can expect to “get wet”. Fed up with tourists’ discarding their rubbish on the steps, he has decided that once a day the steps will be hosed down. He hopes that the risk of a wet bum will be enough to put visitors off eating picnics there. “It’s not that eating a sandwich while walking along the street is banned,” he says. “We want to put people off from camping out.”
