Smart wheelchair

Agroup of primary school children from Thailand won a golden medal at the 2017 Korea International Youth Olympiad last month for their invention, the smart wheelchair. The wheelchair is able to rise and sink using a motor, so that the user can reach different heights. It can also connect to a hospital in case of an emergency, and send a GPS location to doctors, telling them where the chair is. One of the students, Nattapat Subsompon, said that he was inspired to create it after seeing his grandmother, who uses a wheelchair, struggle to open a door. The theme of this year’s contest was creating high-tech gadgets for people with disabilities.

The children won a prize.
