SoundForest
iOS (Free)
We’ve covered some great music apps on The Week Junior, but SoundForest is a new app that gets you making tunes with... trees. That’s right, trees.
Not real trees, though: virtual ones on the screen of an iPhone or iPad – plus parrots, snails, worms and other creatures you might find in forests around the world.
The app uses sequencers, which is what real musicians use to create electronic music. You swipe and tap on a bar at the bottom of the screen to choose notes – represented by the wildlife – and then place them above in a pattern to make tunes.
From creating your own version of hits like
Despacito, to making your own original tunes, it’s really fun. You can use some sounds with the free download, while a single in-app purchase of £1.99 unlocks everything
to play with.
