Lady Amos is the first female and BAME person to become the director of SOAS (the School of Oriental & African Studies) University of London. Before this, Amos held a top position at the United Nations. She has also achieved many firsts in her career. In 2003, Amos became the first black woman to sit in the Cabinet – the members of Parliament who make important decisions about the country – when she was appointed Secretary of State for Internatio­nal Developmen­t.
