Lady Amos is the first fe­male and BAME per­son to be­come the di­rec­tor of SOAS (the School of Ori­en­tal & African Stud­ies) Univer­sity of Lon­don. Be­fore this, Amos held a top po­si­tion at the United Na­tions. She has also achieved many firsts in her ca­reer. In 2003, Amos be­came the first black wo­man to sit in the Cab­i­net – the mem­bers of Par­lia­ment who make im­por­tant de­ci­sions about the coun­try – when she was ap­pointed Sec­re­tary of State for In­ter­na­tional Devel­op­ment.
