Hop along to an Easter trail

Nearly 200 Easter events have been organised by the National Trust.

-

The National Trust will be hosting around 200 Easter trails this year. The National Trust is a charity that looks after historic buildings, gardens and areas of countryside in the UK.

Wherever you are in England, Northern Ireland and Wales, you won’t be far away from a National Trust site offering Easter and spring-themed events. In Scotland, the National Trust for Scotland is hosting Easter trails for families in 35 places.

Going on an Easter trail or egg hunt is a wonderful way to explore gardens, mazes, meadows, parkland, orchards and woods, which are now bursting with buds and flowers and signs of spring.

Some of the National Trust’s activities over the Easter weekend and during the school holidays include Easter trails, egg and spoon races, welly wanging (throwing a welly as far as possible), arts and crafts, building dens and planting seeds.

You can also try hoopla (throwing hoops to win prizes) and making spring-inspired selfies at Mottisfont’s trail in Hampshire. At Cragside in Northumberland you can play giant noughts and crosses and decorate trees with paper blossoms. At Shugborough in Staffordshire, visitors can learn about chicks and hold them, and there’s a play area with a zip wire. All of those are in England. At Castle Ward in County Down, Northern Ireland, there’s a circus-themed Easter carnival with lots to do including a tightrope walk, hoop throwing and storytelling. Each Easter trail is different and at the end everyone should receive a chocolatey reward. Ask an adult to find out more by searching “National Trust Easter egg hunt” and “Easter egg trails Scotland”.
