Team GB Olympics kits revealed

-

With less than 100 days to go until the Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony, the team kits for Great Britain’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes have been unveiled. The red, white and blue clothing is designed by sportswear company Adidas to match the colours of the UK’s flag. The kits will be worn by Team GB athletes this summer in Paris, France, which is preparing to welcome 15,000 athletes and more than 15 million visitors from around the world for the Olympic Games.

Photos have been released of Team GB athletes wearing the new kits, including long jumper Jazmin Sawyers, skateboarder Lola Tambling and gymnast Max Whitlock. Paralympians, including Thomas Young, Zak Skinner and Olivia Breen are also modelling the new look. The Paris 2024 Olympics will be the first games to feature breakdancing as a competitive sport, and Sunni Brummitt, who started breakdancing at the age of 10, can also be seen in the photos, testing the stretchiness of the fabric with his moves.

Adidas says nearly all the designs are adaptive, which means athletes with and without disabilities can wear them to train and compete. The kit has a simple, plain design with “Great Britain” written in big letters across the chest. Some people have said the design is too simple compared to the kit worn in previous games, which featured lions and cut-up flags. However, Adidas said it is a “sleek, modern collection” that represents “the fire of passion that burns within every athlete”.

Diver Tom Daley, who competed in his first Olympics Games aged 14 and is set to compete in his fifth Olympics in Paris, agreed. “This new kit totally sums up that special feeling and I cannot wait to wear it in Paris,” he said. Paralympic sprinter and long jumper Olivia Breen hopes to add to her medal collection after winning two bronze medals in two previous Olympics in London and Tokyo . “I love the new kit,” she says, “especially the pops of colour and what they represent. It feels really fresh.”
