The Archers: what happened last week

The men are uneasy at the cricket team’s first mixed nets. Justin is delighted that he doesn’t have to go back to London – and Miranda. Lilian leaves for Home Farm; she’s worried her relationship with Justin will lose its spark now they’re not sneaking around. She confides in Jennifer, who’s pleased Justin’s chosen Lilian over Miranda. Lilian isn’t sure; she enjoyed being the mistress. Eddie notices Ambridge Hall offers birdwatching tours, so enlists the services of Jim. When Justin invites Lilian to take a stroll by Arkwright Lake, Lilian says she hopes life won’t get too domestic. She proposes a trip to Alderney. Justin says they should go there on honeymoon. Lilian is speechless. They’re interrupted by a row in the hide, as Robert and Jim argue over the birdwatching spot. Lilian flees. Alistair confirms Ruth’s fears that some of her cows have infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR). Lilian and Justin meet in The Bull and are soon getting on as well as ever. Lilian admits she was thrown by his talk of marriage as he’s never even said he loves her. He then flamboyantly declares his undying love. Lilian is mortified and exits in a flurry of toppling glasses, leaving Justin down on one knee.
