Open Garden Squares Weekend gives Londoners the chance to snoop around gardens normally closed to the public. More than 230 gardens across 27 boroughs are taking part, including The Royal College of Physicians’ Medicinal Garden. £13 for a weekend advance ticket. 17-18 June (www.opensquare­s.org).

The Sellout by Paul Beatty (Oneworld £8.99). Beatty’s “outrageous­ly daring and funny” Man Booker prizewinni­ng novel tackles the charged issue of race in America through the satirical story of a black man trying to reintroduc­e segregatio­n (The Mail on Sunday).
