Some of the survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire will be permanently rehoused in a new luxury development in the heart of Kensington, the Government announced this week. The 68 one- and twobed flats are newly built social housing within the Kensington Row complex, where the price of private homes starts at £1.5m. Officials said extra money had been found so that the flats could be fitted out faster.

Fire safety experts suggested this week that bridges should be built between tower blocks, and that residents should be able to use lifts in the event of a fire. They warned that the ability of architects to build ever higher was outpacing the ability of firefighters to tackle blazes in tall buildings.
