Yazidi boy reunited with family: A 12-year-old Yazidi boy has been reunited with his mother in Canada, after three years as a captive of Islamic State. Emad Mishko Tamo was rounded up with his relatives in Sinjar, northern Iraq, in 2014, but was then separated from them. His mother escaped, and six months ago she and four of her children flew to Canada as goverment-sponsored refugees. However, Emad’s whereabouts remained unknown until last month, when he was found in a ruined building during Mosul’s liberation. A photograph (above) shared on social media, was then spotted by a relative, leading to a campaign to get him to Canada.

Farc war’s “last breath”: The final batch of weapons held by the Farc rebel group has been handed over to UN observers – a moment hailed by Colombia’s President Juan Santos as the “last breath” of a conflict which killed more than 220,000 people over five decades, according to government tallies. About 7,000 Farc fighters have demobilised under the peace accord, which gives the Marxist rebel group ten unelected seats in parliament until 2026, and an amnesty for most ex-militants. UN mission head Jean Arnault said 8,112 weapons had been turned over. The final handover took place in La Guajira province; the guns are to be smelted down and the metal used in the creation of three peace monuments, to be erected in Bogotá, Havana and New York.
