The Week

Pick of the week’s Gossip

At one point, Daniel Craig said he’d rather slit his wrists than play 007 again, but he has now confirmed that he will appear in one more Bond film. The actor – who has been in negotiations with producers for two years – will reportedly earn up to £100m for appearing in the 25th Bond film, due for release in November 2019. Last week, he said he was looking forward to going out on a “high note”, and apologised for his comment about killing himself. “It was two days after shooting the last movie; I gave a really stupid answer.” Gemma Arterton (above) is only a size 10 – but she wasn’t slim enough for the makers of one film. The actress, 31, has revealed that on a set in Morocco, producers became so anxious about her weight that they flew out a personal trainer for her – and had her filmed in the gym to make sure she was exercising. “They’d measure me and call up the trainer at nine at night going, ‘Is she in the gym?’. And then they’d get me in the gym and film me in the gym, and they’d have to know I was there.” She added: “One day I went to get some snacks on set, some dried apricots. And this big, fat, obese producer went, ‘I hope you’re not going to eat that.’”

One film critic cruelly compared his singing in the Abba musical Mamma Mia! to an “outboard motor” – but that hasn’t stopped Pierce Brosnan accepting a role in the sequel. “I think the world is ready for Mamma Mia! 2,” he declared last week. “And I believe the world is ready to hear me sing once more!”
