The Ferryman at the Gielgud Theatre, London W1 (0844-482 5130). Sam Mendes’ production of Jez Butterwort­h’s “thrilling” play, set in Northern Ireland during the Troubles, has extended its run for a second time (Times). With Will Houston. Ends 19 May 2018.

Pioneers of Pop at the Hatton Gallery, Newcastle University (0191-208 6059). The Hatton, which houses a fine collection of postwar British art, has reopened after a £3.8m refurbishm­ent. Eduardo Paolozzi, David Hockney and Richard Hamilton are among the pioneering artists whose work is featured in this show.
