“Pharma Bro” gets seven years: Martin Shkreli, the former hedge fund manager who became known as the “most hated man in the US” when he hiked the price of an Aids drug by 5,000% overnight, has been jailed for seven years in an unrelated fraud case. In 2015, Shkreli, 35, became reviled for putting up the price of Daraprim from $13.50 a pill to $750. But in August, a court found that before gaining that notoriety, the “Pharma Bro” had committed fraud as part of a scheme to conceal losses at two hedge funds. Although he’d paid the money back, he was also ordered to forfeit $7m to the government.
