Gun limits passed: Florida’s Republican governor, Rick Scott, has signed into law a range of measures that will make it harder for young people to get access to guns, chief among which is raising the minimum age at which guns can lawfully be purchased, from 18 to 21. The new law, named after the high school in Parkland where 17 people were shot dead by a 19-year-old gunman last month, also bans the sale of bump stocks, devices that can be attached to rifles to make them fire faster; these came to public attention last year when a gunman used them to kill 58 people in Las Vegas. The National Rifle Association has now filed a lawsuit against Florida, claiming the age limit is unconstitutional.
