A career criminal has robbed a bank in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, because he missed prison life. Six months after finishing a 20-year term in New Jersey for attempted homicide, William Gallagher, 68, took the train to Wisconsin – he’d heard its prisons had the best food – and held up a branch of Chase Bank, claiming to have a bomb, before asking the cashier to call the police. “Am I going to prison or what?” he asked the judge when his case came to court.

The world’s first sausage hotel has opened in Germany. Gasthaus Böbel in Rittersbach, Franconia, is described by its owner, master butcher Claus Böbel, as “a little, classy, premium bratwurst hotel”. Each of the rooms is dedicated to a different aspect of the sausage. One displays the ingredients of bratwurst, another describes its history. Another celebrates sausages from around the world: merguez, salsiccia and so on. Pillows and soap bars are sausage-shaped. Real bratwurst hang from the ceilings. “It’s probably a bit easier for nonvegetarians,” said Böbel. “But everyone is welcome.”

An Indian man is planning to sue his parents for bringing him into the world without his consent. Raphael Samuel, from Mumbai, says he has a “great relationship” with his parents, but thinks that “forcing a child into this world” is akin to “kidnapping and slavery”. Samuel is a convinced “antinatalist” and believes that “your parents had you instead of a toy or a dog. You owe them nothing. You are their entertainment.”
