Probably the best garden mulch ever made

-

Gardening is therapeutic at the best of times — but now, when we’re all so limited in what we can do, it’s more important than ever for our wellbeing Strulch is designed to stop weeds growing, to keep moisture in the soil during dry spells and to act as a deterrent to surfacefeeding slugs and snails. Strulch is environmentally friendly, is made from locally produced straw and has a neutral pH, so can be used anywhere in the garden. The patented process replicates nature by preserving the straw and turning it brown. Strulch lasts on the surface for up to two years.

Alex Hankey, trials team leader at RHS Garden Wisley, says “We’ve been using Strulch to mulch the large beds on the Trials Field at Wisley for many years, which is testament to its quality and durability. Not only does it have great decorative merit, but it also serves as a brilliant, longlasting weed suppressant. It’s a lightweight material that’s very easy to spread, and it compresses over time. Overall, an excellent mulch investment”.

SLUG AND SNAIL DETERRENT

The physical properties of Strulch — together with the embedded minerals — helps to discourage slugs and snails.

LASTING WEED CONTROL

Strulch inhibits weed germination and growth by blocking out light. The mineralisation process inhibits the rate at which the straw breaks down and, depending on the application rate and local conditions, can act as an efficient barrier to light for up to two years.

REDUCED WATERING

Mulching is widely recommended as good gardening practice. It reduces water loss from evaporation, especially during the hot summer months.

ADDS ORGANIC MATTER

Strulch is biodegradable and will break down over time, adding valuable organic matter and nutrients to the soil. Its properties are: N– 0.6%, P2O5– 0.2%, K2O–1.6% percentage dry matter, plus calcium, magnesium and iron (0.75%) and organic acid preservative. Strulch encourages earthworm activity by acting as a long-term food source for surface feeding species.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

Strulch is made from renewable and local resources that don’t harm the environment. It’s verified for use in organic growing systems.

The good news is that Strulch is available online in bulk: 12, 25 or 48 x 150- litre bags can be ordered from strulch.co.uk or in smaller quantities in 100- litre bags from online and garden centre stockists.
