Erika LaBrie, an American competitive archer, describes herself as an “objectum sexual” – someone who is attracted to objects. In 2007, she “married” the Eiffel Tower and briefly changed her surname to Eiffel. Now, in a new documentary, LaBrie, 50, reveals that her affections have turned towards a fence. She is filmed explaining her attraction to it. “He’s perfect,” she says. “I mean... These angles? Fabulous.” She says that ”fences are such dangerous objects for me because they are so perfect in their geometry”, adding roguishly: “I would like to get to know this fence better.” Japanese men are snapping up a new style of underwear: lacy boxer shorts designed to “glamorise the male part”. The Lace Boxer, which comes in seven colours, has proved a hit since going on sale in Isetan, a department store in Tokyo, where three months’ stock sold out in ten days. Wacoal, which created the garment, says the style provides “glamorous front comfort”, and is “designed to comfortably wrap around the male part”. Wacoal admits it has been surprised by the product’s popularity.

Two Swiss brothers have created a “zero-star hotel” where the rooms have no walls, ceiling or doors – and guests sleep on a double bed on a platform next to a petrol station. The Riklin brothers, who are conceptual artists, say that guests are invited to “half sleep”, but are mainly encouraged to spend the night reflecting on the world. “Sleep is not the point,” said Frank Riklin. “Staying here is a statement about the need for urgent changes in society.” They charge 325 Swiss francs (£280) per room.
