Earley committees appointed

EARLEY TOWN Council has appointed a number of councillors to committees when it held its first meeting of the Municipal Year on Wednesday, May 31.

Cllr Brian Wedge will be continuing as vice chair for a further year, while Cllr Norman Jorgensen, was appointed as chairman at the Full Council Meeting held on May 10.

Appointed to the staffing Review Sub-Committee were Cllrs Andrew Bradley, Linda Chambers, Judith Clark, Pamela Dunn, Michael Firmager and Norman Jorgensen

On the Standing Orders Working Party are Cllrs Linda Chambers, Ralph Houlbrooke, Michael Firmager, Norman Jorgensen, Pauline Jorgensen and Brian Wedge.

Appointed to the Service to Earley Award Panel are Cllrs John Armstrong, Andrew Bradley, Linda Chambers, Michael Firmager and Ralph Houlbrooke.

The meeting of the Committee also decided that it did not wish to continue with a separate Community & Youth SubCommittee. Councillors were of the view that the work of this SubCommittee could be included within the agenda of Policy & Resources committee. It was felt that this would be more effective since a Standing Committee is able to make decisions whereas a Sub-Committee can only make recommendations.

Representatives from outside bodies who previously attended the Community & Youth Sub-Committee would be invited to the next and subsequent meetings of the Policy & Resources Committee. Councillors also voted to review this new arrangement after six months.
