Pupils’ poignant race

-

THE entire upper school at a Finchampstead school participated in their own 5K ‘Race for Life’ last week to raise money for Cancer Research.

Pupils at Waverley School were joined by Fiona Castle, widow of TV presenter and musician Roy Castle, who tragically died of lung cancer.

Before the race, Mrs Castle spoke to the children about how proud she was to see every single pupil in the Prep School taking part. She explained the importance of getting involved and raising money to support research to fight cancer.

All the pupils then completed a 5K run/walk and on completion each pupil was awarded a medal by Mrs Castle.

Guy Shore, Head of Waverley, said: ‘It was a fantastic event where all of our Prep School children from Year 3 to Year 6 either ran, jogged or walked the 5K course and raised money for a very worthwhile cause.

“It was amazing to have the rest of the school out supporting and cheering everyone’s efforts. I am very proud of all who took part.’

Mrs Castle said: “It was a real joy to be part of such a happy, enthusiastic Race for Life for the children of Waverley School.

“It was amazing to see how they cheered each other on, most of all for the child who finished last!

“They were all taking part for the right reason and the whole atmosphere was brilliant.”
