A celebration of town and countryside
A local chamber choir will be performing a celebration of town and countryside this Sunday. JOHN WAKEFIELD explains
WITH flaming June reminding us of just how good the great outdoors can be, a local chamber choir’s summer concert is a great reason to celebrate it even more.
This weekend, Tamesis Chamber Choir will be holding it annual summer concert – and it has switched the time and venue to make it more accessible than ever before.
Called Places and Spaces, the event takes place from 4pm on Sunday at Queen Anne’s School in Henley Road, Caversham.
Organisers say that by ringing the changes, it can appeal to a wider Berkshire audience, attracting people who enjoy live music being performed but would prefer not to travel into a town centre on a Saturday night.
The venue also has accessible parking, making it perfect for those with limited mobility.
The theme is a celebration of the town and the countryside and will see the choir – who have featured on BBC Radio 3 – perform Bob Chilcott’s energetic Songs and Cries of London Town with its exciting piano duet accompaniment, Rutter’s Birthday Madrigals and a selection of traditional songs on the theme, including A Nightingale sang in Berkeley Square, Linden Lea and The Lark in the Clear Air.
A spokesperson for the choir said: “It’s a great programme of light and enjoyable music and there will be interval refreshments.”
The choir will be led by Louise Rapple Moore and feature pianist Judith Creighton. During a piano duet, Tamesis singer and Queen Anne’s music staff member Alison Wilkins, will join her.
And it’s not the only performance that Tamesis will be planning over the coming weeks.
Next weekend, the choir will be performing the same programme in Cornwall.
The group has been invited to take part in the Endelienta concert series at St Endellion church.
