Jones’ rink leads Wokingham to big win

NEIL JONES skipped his rink to a big win as Wokingham A saw off Bracknell A in the Kennet League.

Facing off in Division 1, Wokingham sealed an 84 shots to 66 victory with Jones, Adie Chipper, Colin Livingston­e and Ken Richardson winning their contest by 15 shots.

Rinks led by Tom Searle and John Scowen were also victorious at Bracknell.

WOKINGHAM B edged out Windsor and Eton 77-75 in

Division 2.

Colin Cleverly along with Brian Hoare, John MacGregor and Barry Woolley were the highest up rink, winning by 12 shots while Pat Cleary’s rink also won.

It was a tough trip on the road for WOKINGHAM C when they went to face Woodley in

Division 3.

The hosts ran out comfortabl­e 94-51 victors with the rink of Roy Fewster, Alan Painter, Claude Linnel and Robin Harding the only winning quartet.

In the Kennet LV Overs 55s league, WOKINGHAM A were beaten at THREE MILE CROSS.

It proved to be a convincing win for the hosts, running out with a 68-36 victory after success in all three triples.

WOKINGHAM B thrashed WOKINGHAM C in a club battle in Division 2.

Ted Melber’s rink were the top performers with a 28-7 win against John MacGregor’s triple.

The C team’s John Buttigieg’s rink won 20-14 against Gerry Deeves’ rink while B’s Jim Rudd and company eased to a win in the third contest.

In Division 3, WOKINGHAM D travelled to play Great Hollands C and lost the match by 72 shots to 34. Terry Cornell skipped his rink to a win during the defeat.

In the Thames Valley Ladies League, WOKINGHAM OAKAPPLES lost out to Tilehurst Gold by 55 shots to 46 in Division 3.

Wokingham had one winning triple, skipped by Janette Kane along with Margaret Argent and

Sue Thompson, who won by five shots.

WOKINGHAM ACORNS travelled to play Maidenhead Town in Division 1, winning 57-42.

The top triple for Wokingham was skipped by Lillian Holliday along with Val Hales-Owen and Sylvia Pearce.

Anne Parker’s rink were also victorious.

There were also plenty of friendly matches.

WOKINGHAM LADIES faced Burghfield, losing out 57-36 with defeats for all three rinks.

WOKINGHAM hosted the Berkshire Masonic Bowling Associatio­n in a mixed friendly, winning by 120 shots to 84.

The highest up rink was David Andrew, John Buttigieg, Ann Taylor and Chris McFarlane.

Rinks skipped by Bob Boswell and Gerry Deeves also won their matches.

But Wokingham did suffer a heavy 114-70 defeat at Shiplake Village.
