Raja’s half ton just not enough

- By TOM CROCKER

ZAIN RAJA’S half century came in vain as Woodley’s woes continued with defeat to Welford Park.

It’s been a tough season for Woodley, with just one victory in the Premier Division, but the weekend clash with winless Welford represented a good chance to try and push out of the relegation zone.

But they failed to chase down the target of 219 needed as they were bowled out for 186, losing by 32 runs.

Abdul Khaliq shone with the ball for the hosts, posting figures of 6-50 as Woodley bowled out Welford in 45 overs.

Raja then led the way with a knock of 58 and while Moubeen Shaukat hit 34 not out, all his batting partners fell around him as Woodley came up short.

BERKSHIRE COUNTY SPORTS climbed up to second after a thumping 170-run win over West Reading.

Berks batted first and had a number of notable contributors on the way to 300-9 with Waqas Ashraf (89), Usman Asif (60) and Kashif Mehmood (37) leading the charge.

And they also produced with the ball to ensure victory with Saqib Hussain (3-27), Zaheer Ahmed (2-16) and Sohail Chaudhry (2-19) helping to dismiss Reading for 130.

CROWTHORNE AND CROWN WOOD slipped from second following a six-wicket defeat to struggling Woodcote.

Muhammed Shakeel Arshad’s knock of 65 was by far the best Crowthorne could muster with the bat with Anthony Cluett’s 24 the only other score of note as the Crows were dismissed for 153.

And the hosts could not get close with the ball, despite figures of 3-35 from Sinith Chandran, as Woodcote eased to victory.

Andy Webb hit 96 not out as EMMBROOK

AND BEARWOOD moved top of Division 1 with a seven-wicket win over Peppard Stoke Row 2s.

Emmbrook, who were relegated from the Premier Division last year, have been in fine form since losing the opening game of the campaign and they sealed a fourth straight victory to head the table.

Spinner Callum Marshall took figures of

4-27 as the visitors eventually got to grips with Peppard while Richard Cole and Ollie Williams picked up two wickets apiece to bowl them out for 166.

And Webb did most of the damage on his own in reply, aided by captain Phil West (28no) and Williams (22).

FARLEY HILL are in the relegation zone after succumbing to a five-wicket defeat against Checkendon.

Duncan Greeff (26), Ross Ditchburn (21) and Simon Longfield (23) were the top scorers as Farley were bowled out for 145.

Nick Timms (3-29) did his best with the ball in reply, but Checkendon eased to the win in the 35th over.
