Spring opening for borough’s first Aldi

PLANS to open the first Aldi supermarket in the borough are moving ahead, with bosses expecting to welcome shoppers early next year.

The popular discount chain is creating a new store at Suttons Business Park in Earley. The brand-new store, which replaces previously empty warehouse units, will create a number of jobs when it opens.

And it will be next to a Costa Coffee drivethrough branch which is also expected to open next year.

Signs are up and the car park has been created, but the finishing touches will take a few more weeks before the ribbon will be cut on the new store.

Another Aldi is planned for the controversial Elms Field development in Wokingham’s town centre.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “Work on our new store at Sutton’s Business Park is progressing well. We expect to open in spring next year and look forward to helping residents to shop and save closer to home.”
