WI looks to the future
TO MARK a century of meeting, members of the Finchampstead Women’s Institute (WI) have left a lasting memorial that generations to come will enjoy.
On Friday, March 16, the group gathered at the village’s Memorial Park to plant a copper beech tree close to the football pitch.
After members had each had a turn at placing soil around the tree, they toasted the century of the group with a glass of Champagne.
Shirley Williamson, the group’s president, said: “Many of the members are long-standing, but recently – because of the popularity of the
WI all over the country, Finchampstead WI has a thriving membership.
“Each month we have a speaker, afternoon tea with sandwiches and cakes and a raffle. During the year we organise outings and visit places of interest.
“We have a theatre group, a lunch club, a knitting/sewing group and a walking group.
“We are currently organising lots of events during 2018 to celebrate this special year.”
The group meets from 2.15pm on the first Thursday of the month at Finchampstead’s Memorial Hall. Guests are welcome.
