Twyford prepares for twinning weekend
TWYFORD will be flying the flag for an historic union this weekend when it signs a twinning agreement with the French town of Cuincy.
A delegation from the town in northern France will arrive on Friday evening with the formal signing taking place in the youth centre on Saturday morning.
This will be followed by a celebration dinner at The Royal Oak before the visitors leave on Sunday.
Twyford Parish Council and the Mayor of Wokingham will be joined by the Mayor of Cuincy and a small group from the French town.
The Twyford Twinning Association was set up last year following an approach from the town of Cuincy.
Both communities hope the union will bring numerous social, sporting and cultural benefits, especially for young people. The Twyford Comets football team is already looking at organising an exchange match later this year.
It is also hoped the twinning will see joint celebrations to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War as there is a British cemetery in Cuincy.
Twyford residents are invited to attend the signing ceremony and meet their new French friends over the weekend. For more information contact the Twyford Twinning Association.
