CHRIS WILSON marked his Bracknell debut in style by bagging a hat-trick in victory over Lydney.
With the inclement weather leading to successive postponements, Bracknell finally got back out at Lily
Hill Park for the first time in a month, despite a covering of snow.
Preparations were further hampered by an injury to Leo Bailey, meaning he missed out.
But the hosts responded from falling behind early on to lead 12-5 at the break before pulling clear to pick up the full five points.
Playing with the wind at their backs, Lydney got in front with their first venture into the oppositon half as second row Dave Bennett nipped over the line.
The scores were eventually levelled as Wilson chased down his own kick over the defence.
Chris Hala’ufia crashed over to open up a lead before half-time with Chris Laidler converting.
And that advantage was extended as Wilson burst down the wing for his second try of the afternoon.
Lydney responded, awarded a penalty try following a deliberate knock-on.
But as the snow began to fall, good hands from Michael Clarke helped pick out Wilson in space and he duly crossed for his hat-trick try.
Further tries arrived through Hala’ufia again and Jiute Tupua to clinch a comfortable 38-12 win.
“With a long lay-off, I am delighted with the fivepoint win in what were very challenging conditions,” said head coach Daniel ap Dafydd.
Bracknell sit 10th in the table while Lydney stay bottom. Ap Dafydd’s men host secondbottom Hornets on Saturday (2.15pm).
