Hawkedon team up to pick it up

- NIKKI GLADWIN STRIDE

LAST week saw children from Hawkedon Primary School take part in a little pick to keep our picturesque and nature-lived areas clean and safe for wildlife and members of our community to enjoy.

As part of our mini DofE club, the children took part in this community project and despite the weather being against them they managed to bag plenty of litter to bin, while keeping their spirits high.

To top it off they also managed to get a selfie with the local water rescue team who were out on the river.

We first visited the centre a couple of weeks back, and our pupils couldn’t believe that so many people would leave their rubbish at the site, especially when there are so many types of birds living there who try to consume anything they think is food.

The children were very keen to do their bit to help clear the rubbish and this project gave them a real sence of achievement, but they have also left with the message, PUT IT IN THE BIN!
