‘To Do’ List

As well as the usual winter tasks here are my other plans for the months ahead.

-

❁ Get rid of the leylandii

Although I like the shape of this tree it has grown too tall too quickly and now throws unwanted shade over the herb garden. I had tried to top it off last year with the idea that I could trim it into a lollipop shape but it hasn’t responded very well to this treatment and now just looks a mess!

❁ Bulb planting

I don’t know what happens to my bulbs. I buy quite a few each year and only about half of them seem to appear. I presume something is eating them or I’m not planting them deeply enough. They also tend to migrate — I had a lot of lovely double snowdrops in the beds along my fence when I first moved in but now they’re appearing in the field next door.

❁ Make a ‘white’ garden area

After a visit to Sissinghurst I’ve decided to try and create my own mini version using white roses, tulips, astrantia and lavender teamed up with the silver foliage of artemisia, centaurea cineraria (Dusty Miller), and eryngium (Miss Wilmott’s Ghost).
