See­ing Dou­ble at The Ship and Shov­ell?

No, your eyes do not de­ceive you! If you look at the pic­ture be­low you will see that The Ship and Shov­ell pub, near Char­ing Cross Sta­tion, Lon­don, is in two sep­a­rate build­ings on op­po­site sides of Craven Pas­sage, a pedes­trian walk­way.

For­tu­nately, the two halves of this Grade-ii listed hostelry are con­nected by a cel­lar un­der­neath. Dat­ing back to Vic­to­rian times, the inn takes its cu­ri­ous name from the Admiral of the Fleet, Sir Cloudes­ley Shov­ell.
