No Place Like Home
As a Christmas present in 1975, my brother (and then sister-in-law) gave me a subscription to “This England”, and I was thrilled I continued the subscription, and still have almost all the issues since winter 1975. At that time, I had been in America for 10 years, and “This England” was a breath of fresh air to me.
In 1964 my parents bought a condemned, 500-year-old thatched cottage and restored it to be a delightful warm and cosy home near Cambridge. I loved coming back to the uiet and peace of the English countryside on visits.
My California home gives me wonderful views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay. I spent many holidays in the West Country, to “breathe in England”. I don’t get back often enough, but “This England” helps to keep me in touch and there’s nothing like English humour
Thank you for the past 42-plus years and I look forward to many more.
