SAINTLY SHINDIGS

-

We’re not the only ones to celebrate St George’s Day, but by George, we can do it well! Here’s our pick of the events this spring:

FEAST OF ST GEORGE

Fairs and fetes are an integral part of English culture, and the Feast of St George is one of our finest. Wave a flag, enjoy tea and cake and listen to the brass band all in the surrounds of Trafalgar Square. Saturday, April 20, Trafalgar Square, London. Visit: www.london.gov.uk.

ST GEORGE’S DAY CHARITY FESTIVAL

This event begins with the raising of the flag on Lytham Green. Last year saw festival-goers waltzing, tangoing and foxtrotting at the Tea Dance, a Comedy Night held in the Grand Marquee and the St George’s Ball where you can eat like kings and queens with a sumptuous five-course meal. Money raised goes to selected charities. Tuesday, April 23 - Sunday, 28, various venues Lytham St Annes. Visit: www. stgeorgesdayfestival.com or tel: 01253 667420.

ST GEORGE’S DAY EXTRAVAGANZA

Shields and swords at the ready! This annual St George’s Day event brings together the whole family with live-action medieval jousting and a living history encampment. There is even a five-metre animatronic dragon, which will delight and terrify. Saturday, April 20, Tamworth Castle Grounds. Visit: www. tamworth assemblyrooms.co.uk or tel: 01827 709618.
