THIS ENGLAND’S FINEST TEA ROOMS

-

Mrs Avril Moir writes to us to say the following:

As an avid reader of This England I think it’s time to tell you about my favourite tearoom here in my home town of Market Harborough. It’s called Sweet Pea’s Tea Room and can be found at 23 Adam and Eve Street (07756 024774) opposite the town council building.

It’s family run by husband-and-wife team Tony and Michele, and their daughter Rebecca. The tearoom is themed in a 1950s style with Fifties music playing in the background, bringing back memories of the glamour of the day. The homely “snug” , with its cosy armchairs and fireplace, makes for a real home from home. The family try to source local food where possible and make the majority of the cakes and scrummy scones (sweet and savoury). Their home-made quiches are a must for a light lunch. If any readers find themselves in Market Harborough and seek out Sweet Pea’s, they won’t be disappointed.

Judy Noble has also written recommending Lavenham Blue Vintage Tea Rooms (6 Market Place, Lavenham, Sudbury, 01787 248295):

We first visited in 2018 when the ‘Beast from the East’ was in full flow. It is the most delightful tea rooms. Lots of wonderful vintage china, the Ink Spots and Glenn Miller playing on the gramophone and a view out across the market square onto the magnificent Guildhall. The building is a Grade II listed, 15th century timber framed cottage. Scones and cakes are freshly made daily and always different flavours. The staff are really pleasant and welcoming too.

I can’t help but check regularly on Facebook to see what we’re missing!
