THIS ENGLAND’S FINEST TEA ROOMS

-

While at the time of going to press, the nation has been discouraged from visiting social venues, England’s tea rooms and small businesses will need our support more than ever once normality resumes. Here are two further gems to keep in your back pocket!

Thanks to Patricia E. Lister from North Tyneside for this recommendation:

I would like to recommend Frameworks, 24 Bridge St, Blyth, Northumberland NE24 2BP (01670 355304/frameworksblyth.co.uk) as my favourite tea room. Frameworks is attached to a very good pictureframing gallery (hence the name) and select fancy-goods shop selling arts, gifts, furniture, mirrors and fabulous interior products, all housed in an elegant Victorian building.

Our favourite in the morning is the “framed” egg. It is the usual breakfast of bacon, etc, but the fried egg is encased in the centre of a slice of fried bread – a circle is cut out of the centre of the bread and the egg dropped in. On Saturdays it is served with buck’s fizz!

The scones are delicious and the staff extremely welcoming and kindly, as you would expect Geordies to be! The décor is clean and bright, but calming, and there is a pianist playing gently in the corner. Well worth a visit.

Edward Spratt has also written in to tell us all about this winner in Cumbria. Thank you, Edward!

I would like to nominate The Craggs, Bothel, Wigton, Cumbria CA7 2JN (016973 23084). Just off the main Keswick to Bothel road, The Craggs has lovely views of the area through three sides of its large, warm, welcoming room. The food is the best I’ve eaten for a long time, freshly prepared on the premises with first-class service. The Sunday lunches are very popular, so best to book for those! I checked their website and see all reviews are 5 star, which I happily endorse from my visit.

If you have a favourite tea room that you would like to nominate for our award, then send details to: This England’s Finest Tea Rooms, DC Thomson, 185 Fleet Street, London, EC4A 2HS, or email editor@thisengland.co.uk
