Swing to the beat

Gain better rhythm and extra distance with a simple counting drill.

Fault: Swinging back too slow… and down too fast Fix: Count 1-2-3-4 to set your swing’s rhythm Good rhythm gives your action better sequencing and timing, helping you hit the ball with power and co-ordination. One of the best ways to improve your rhythm is by focusing on the time it takes you to get from set-up to the top, and from the top to impact. Research suggests tour pros typically have a 3:1 ratio here, but club golfers are typically slower going back and ‘snatchier’ coming forward. This counting drill sets a brisker, 2:1 ratio. Work on this and you’ll find a much more effective swing rhythm… and more power.
