Srixon Z-star XV £45 doz

-

THE TECH The Z-star’s four-layer construction has been specifically designed to perform at the highest swing speeds. A 105 compression is firmer than most tour balls, but Srixon says it ensures maximum distance. Both Z-stars are designed to launch higher with less spin to maximise distance. A new Spin Skin coating increases friction between the clubface and ball and improved dimple aerodynamics deliver a longer, more penetrating ball flight. Greenside spin is a little lower compared to the softer Z-star.

OUR VERDICT Srixon point out the Z-star XV is aimed at high swing speeds, so unless you’re the owner of a 105mph+ driver swing you’d be advised to opt for the regular Z-star (below right). Our test pro recorded his lowest average driver backspin with the XV (2028rpm), which has to suggest it’s geared up for the big hitter, as long as you’ve got the launch to get it out there. 6-iron spin was lower than we saw with any other ball, which would add up to increased accuracy. If we throw into the mix very solid wedge numbers, you have a very good golf ball for power players. Our test pro was surprised how good the XV felt, particularly off the wedge, feeling he preferred the feedback to his usual Pro V1x.
